The basic principle of reverse osmosis.

Water treatment is not as complicated as an industrial filtration plant. Anyone can build a reverse osmosis water filter. Here is our “secret” recipe.

1. Stage · 5 µm · pre-filter

Mechanical filtration

Sediment, sand, rust and suspended solids are caught by the pleated filter layer. Anything larger than 5 µm stops here.

2. Stage · Adsorption · activated carbon

Chemical reduction

Activated carbon binds chlorine, chloramines, pesticide residues, odour and taste compounds on its huge inner surface. One gram equals roughly 1,000 m².

3. Stage · 0.0001 µm · membrane

Molecular filtration

The reverse osmosis membrane lets only water molecules through. Dissolved salts, heavy metals, nitrate and pharmaceutical residues are rejected and carried off with the concentrate.

4. Stage · Minerals · taste

Refinement

Mineral granulate gives the pure water back its calcium, magnesium and trace elements; a final activated carbon stage rounds off the taste.
